I painted Alejandra's Story: Estoy Sola to express my deep sorrow and anguish about the treatment of the refugee chidren in U.S. sanctioned camps.  However, I am hopeful that they will soon be reunited with their loved ones. We should never condone the actions of the past, whether it's the ongoing systemic racism or the treatment of people fleeing unimaginable conditions of their homelands. 

 These are unusual times!  We are experiencing something that our generation has never experienced.  However, our grandparents went through the depression and World War 2.  They were told to sacrifice for the good of the whole.  And they did! 

We can do this! In the meantime, we can take walks in the beautiful springtime, talk with our friends and family on Zoom, and rediscover our creative talents.

Since moving back to Minnesota, I realized that I hadn't created any pastels, like I did when I lived in Santa Fe.   Autumn Color, the painting to the right, and Spring Show were completed in Santa Fe.  The softness of a pastel painting can really the essence of a landscape.  Both of these paintings were scenes from St. Paul.

Spring is a time for new life and creations.  Thoughts of walking along meadows or creeks often make me feel that I'm in tune with God's creation.  This little girl, in her exuberance,  somehow got lost in this flower garden, smelling the flowers of spring. Shouldn't we all be like her . . . enjoying the beauty of this amazing planet?
